Capture The World
Hi everyone, you all know me as @capturingrays, but my name is Henry and I’m a 27-year-old photographer based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. I’m a junior doctor professionally, but I try and cram as many creative things into my packed schedule as I can. Beyond the world of photography, I enjoy all things art, design, music and not forgetting road cycling.
Growing up I was that annoying kid who asked far too many questions, one of which was what the mysterious small black tubes in the fridge were, and if I could eat one. What followed can only be described as a meticulous and highly comprehensive dad response; which at the time went completely over my head. My father has always dabbled in digital photography and tried to teach me the ins and outs to a questionable degree of success. It wasn’t until 2012 when I was on holiday in Japan I was given my first hand-me-down DSLR following a spur-of-the-moment purchase by my dad. I fell in love with the hobby instantly and from that point onwards had an obsession, which would turn out to be rather expensive. Increasing university workload meant I lacked time for the hobby, but after discovering Instagram, I started posting daily iPhone photos, and the bug was back.
I didn’t switch to film photography until one of my friends bought a Canon AE-1 in 2022 and proceeded to send me eBay listings daily until I succumbed and a Canon A1 arrived at my door… the rest was history.
In university, I was president of the cycling club and found myself often racing between traffic lights and getting lost in London. Walking the city with the Canon A1 in hand, I continued to get lost, now at a pace adequate to not blur every photo. Strolling the streets of London became a compulsion, capturing the nuanced details and the ever-changing light of the city; inspiring the name of my Instagram account created in 2022.
