That Feeling of Nostalgia
My name is Nathalie, and I live in Poland. If I don’t travel, I dedicate my free time to my 4 whippets and sports. Road running is, together with traveling and photography, my favorite hobby. I enjoy a good movie and music, but like in photography I would call myself rather old school, my taste in film and music focuses around the 60-80s. I wasn’t that outdoorsy when younger, it came with time and probably with the need to ground myself, as I got older and grew tired of the corporate world, that’s probably a bit cliché.
But starting from the beginning, I got my first camera 19 years ago, an old Canon EF from the 70s, so one could say I learned photography the old way, back then, on black-and-white Ilford HP5 film, playing around in darkrooms and just documenting daily teenage life.
A few years later, I discovered how much I loved to be on the move and travel. I left Poland and moved to Melbourne, Australia, for a bit and spent the following years traveling – mostly to Asia – every free moment I had during University years.
I did what many people do at this age, backpacked for months through Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and The Philippines, returning several times to Cambodia and Laos, which were and still are a favorite of mine, although it has been already more than 10 years since I last visited. I also went to Indonesia, Japan and Hong Kong, leaving only a few countries in this part of the world on my bucket list.
Back then, I didn’t photograph much or at least not with much intention, I’d say University years were the time I got into travels but lost some interest in photography, that is until I got my whippets.
